All of our jewelry is crafted from 100% sterling silver or above, with select pieces finished in 18K gold vermeil โ a thick layer of real gold over solid sterling silver for lasting luxury. Precious metals throughout, no shortcuts underneath.
Everyday Care
These three habits will do more for the longevity of your jewelry than anything else. None of them take more than a few seconds.
Last on, first off
Put on your jewelry after applying lotions, perfume, or hair products. The chemicals in these build up on metal surfaces over time and dull the finish. Taking your jewelry off first when you get home is just as important โ before washing your hands or changing.
Keep it dry
Remove your pieces before swimming, showering, or exercising. Moisture and sweat affect both sterling silver and gold vermeil over time โ not catastrophically, but consistently. It's the single easiest habit to build and the one that makes the biggest difference.
Store it right
Use your Hermin canvas pouch or box to protect each piece when it's not being worn. Keep silver away from humid environments like bathrooms โ the daily moisture from showers accelerates tarnishing more than almost anything else.
Cleaning Sterling Silver
Sterling silver naturally develops a soft patina over time โ that's not damage, it's chemistry. The good news is it polishes off easily and the metal underneath is completely unaffected.
For everyday upkeep
Gently polish with your included Hermin jewelry cloth after wear. A light buff takes thirty seconds and keeps the shine consistent between deeper cleans.
For a deeper clean
Use warm water with a drop of mild dish soap. Soak briefly, work around the piece with a soft brush if needed, then rinse thoroughly and dry completely with a soft, non-abrasive cloth. Don't let water sit on the piece โ pat it dry right away.
The most common mistake with silver is letting soap residue dry on the surface. Always rinse thoroughly โ it's what leaves that filmy, cloudy look people mistake for tarnish.
Caring for 18K Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil requires a slightly lighter touch than plain silver โ you're protecting the gold layer as well as the metal underneath. The approach is simpler, not harder.

- Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear
- Use warm water and mild soap for deeper cleans
- Pat dry immediately after any water contact
- Store in your Hermin pouch between wears
- Put jewelry on after perfume and lotion

- Abrasive materials or rough cloths
- Harsh chemicals or household cleaners
- Ultrasonic cleaning machines
- Silver polish or cloths with cleaning agents
- Leaving water to air-dry on the surface
One thing worth highlighting: do not use silver polish or polishing cloths with cleaning agents on gold vermeil. These are designed to remove oxidation from silver and will strip the gold layer instead. For vermeil, a plain soft cloth is always the right tool.
